What kind of aquarium light is better, incandescent or fluorescent?
this is for a 20 gallon freshwater tank with a couple of goldfish. I have been using a regular 15W light bulb but the whole socket, etc. broke and I’m wondering if I should replace it with a fluorescent bulb or just keep it as a regular light bulb. Thank you!
Oh, I forgot to mention — all the plants in there are plastic. I had some problems with algae but got rid of all it with algae killer and cleaning the tank.. it’s all under control now. The tank is in indirect sunlight so they do get some light at least.

Fluorescent would be better especially if you have live plants in it as they make special grow bulbs for aquariums.

Fluorescent they are brighter more energy efficient and produce less heat in the tank as long as you shouldnt have excess algea.

incans produce a lot of heat and more of a yellow light, the florescents run cooler and have a brighter whiter light, show more of the fishes true colors

floresent is fine, less exspensive.however if your tank is planted, you may want to go with a stronger light souce like attinics, or vho.they are used primarily with marine tanks though.

i think think you should get a new cover because it sounds like a old fashion cover. the light might be exposed to the water. The light gets hot and then the water splashes on it the light breaks . Use fluorescent bulbs
